They say the media can make or break you; well depending on what kind of relationship you strike with them. The power of the pen is as such that it goes the extra mile to send cold shivers down the spines of anyone who finds themselves in the glaring eyes of the press.

Pause a moment and enter Football-256 and you are looking into a whole different dimension of media rollicking.

The online publication just concluded the conduction of its inaugural Award dubbed the Football 256 Footballer Of The Year that trended on digital circles under the #256FOTY hashtag.

This award, the first of its kind was won by KCCA FC midfield guru, Allan Okello who was not short of joy at the presentation of his gong earlier today.

“It’s been a great year for me, ultimately my dream has been making it to the national team. And throughout the last year, my journey with the National team started.” A jolly Okello said.

“So far this has been my biggest achievement. But I want to encourage the organisers to keep on rewarding excellence and recognising the best achievers as it keeps the motivation of the players up,” Okello added.

They say if it’s too good to be true then it’s not true but this certainly doesn’t hold for Football-256 as they have definitely raised the bar of the media game in the country way too high that it’s going to take more than enough to be scaled.

This imitable act of staging an award is bound to raise mixed feelings, which has already been the case but more importantly, it will go the extra mile to motivate players who strive to one day become poster athletes somewhere as this is a very feasible route in any players quest to realising their dreams.

Football-256 didn’t have it their way as they had to defy the odds to set the precedence for this groundbreaking feat.

The fans were given the platform to vote for their best Ugandan footballer over the last 12 months in a format that permitted them to cast their vote once every 24 hours and they chose Okello.

Who didn’t have it easy as he had to beat competition from Cranes skipper Denis Onyango, last season’s Uganda Premier League top scorer Juma Balinya and ex-KCCA teammate’s Patrick Kaddu and Timothy Awany.

Any lingering doubts about Football-256’s ability to stage the award was put to bed ton Monday afternoon as Okello received a glittering golden ball inscribed with his name. This further shows how much this publication has grown in leaps and bounds.

This is testimony of how steadfast and determined this online publication is and for now, the shy is not just the limit for them.
