The Uganda Crested Cranes ended their preparations for the 2019 CECAFA Women Challenge Cup in high gear, thumping reigning FUFA Elite Women League Champions UCU Lady Cardinals 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

This was Crested Cranes’ final build up match before departing for Tanzania, where they will take part in the CECAFA Women Championships due to 16th – 24th November.

Hasifah Nasuuna broke the deadlock from the spot, slotting past Daisy Nakaziro who plies her trade for UCU in a bid to get herself some game time as well.

A few minutes later Juliet Nalukenge doubled the lead with a fabulous solo effort to ensure the first stanza ended 2-0 in favour of the Crested Cranes.

Five minutes into the second half, Faridah Bulega made double changes that saw Fazila Ikwaput and Kunihira Margret coming on for Shamila “Lallana” Nalujja and Namuleme Zaina respectively.

Nalukenge missed out on scoring her second in the game, failing to convert from the spot. In the 72nd minute, Ikwaput made it three for the Crested Cranes with a classic poacher’s goal inside the area.

With a few minutes to full time, Nalukenge scored the fourth and the fifth goal to seal her hat-trick on the afternoon.

It was Crested Cranes third build up match since going into residential camp at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

Head coach Faridah Bulega and her technical team are expected to name the final travelling squad to Tanzania before the team heads out for Tanzania on Thursday morning.
