UPL: Mutebi ironically attributes KCCA’s continental failure to poor officiation

KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi has ironically come out to blame the referees as the main reason as to why his side lost 4-1 against Paradou AC, as they crashed out of CAF Confederation Cup group stage qualification.

The Uganda Premier League champions needed a scoring draw to make it to the money bracket something they failed to achieve.

“The referees were not fair, I went with the mentality that the referees are fair but unfortunately they were not,” Mutebi who was speaking to the media for the first time since Sunday, said.

“Our players got frustrated after unnecessary yellow cards and fouls against us, otherwise we could do something better,” he added.

Mutebi, however, acknowledged that Paradou played better than KCCA on the day and deserved to walk away with the victory.

“They were better than us especially in the final third, we used the ball well in the midfield but in the final third they used the ball efficiently and effectively and that was the difference.”

“They really deserved victory, we created three chances and scored one, they created six and scored four,” he added.

The gaffer also admitted that his side’s lack of goals also contributed to their exit of the tournament. KCCA FC managed only six goals from the six continental games scored which was a bit low.

“We created chances but we were not able to take them away, our players were not clinical enough to score enough goals because to win games you must score goals,” he noted.

KCCA’s attention and focus will now turn to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League as they aim at defending the title as well as Stanbic Uganda Cup. They host Police FC on Saturday at the StarTimes stadium in Lugogo.
