The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has threatened to drag our online portal www.football-256.com to the courts of law for what they have termed as ‘Infringement on FUFA brands’, especially the Uganda Cranes and players images.
According to a letter addressed to the blog’s Chief Writer Clive Kyazze, dated 15th October, signed by the federation’s Chief Executive Officer, Edgar Watson, the publication has been given an ultimatum of 48 hours to recall all its activations and campaigns which use images of Cranes’ players.
“As you are aware, FUFA has invested heavily in developing the Uganda Cranes, Uganda Cranes Jerseys and its related trademarks. The same properties were registered for exclusive use by FUFA,” read a statement from the Federation.
“Therefore, any entity that intends to use the above-mentioned intellectual properties can only do so with authorization from FUFA.”
“It has come to our notice that your online blog continues to infringe on our intellectual properties for commercial promotion of its activities without authorization from FUFA.”
“Be notified that your actions are criminal in nature and continue to mislead the public that all your activations were endorsed by FUFA.”
“On the above premises, you are given 48 hours to recall all your promotions/activations associated with FUFA’s intellectual properties.”
“Failure to comply will leave us with no options but the commencement of both criminal and civil proceedings against you.” The statement continued.
What Infringements are football 256 accused of?
According to our knowledge, the federation has been against our innovation of the ‘256 Footballer of the year award’, which according to them is a move by this website blog to weaken their annual FUFA Footballer of the year awards.
We have previously received phone calls from officials at Mengo about the award from the day we launched this award.
But what exactly is the 256-Footballer of the year award?
Contrary to popular belief, Football-256 is giving out an award, not organising an awards ceremony to feast and dine the night away.
The award is voted for by the readers of the website through an online poll to celebrate our first anniversary, and many more to come (By the grace of God), which falls on 17th November; the day the first ever post on this website blog was published.
And what better way than to celebrate such a milestone achievement, by rewarding the people who give us the news, and keep us glued to everything Ugandan football. And of course together with our readers who provide us with the motivation to do what we do.
