Two first half goals were enough to see Wakiso Giants secure all three points, as they cruised past Mbarara City in the Star Times Uganda Premier league game at the Betway Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.
Tom Masiko opened the scoring for the hosts in the 5th minute of the first half, from a penalty, before Krizestom Ntambi scored his first goal for the club in the 45th minute to ensure the Purple sharks get back to winning ways.
Mbarara City pulled a goal back in the 61st minute, through Ibrahim Orit, but it was not enough to secure even a point for the Ankole lions.
However, Wakiso head coach Kefa Kisala commended his boys for finding the extra courage within to pick up all three points despite him (Kisala) acknowledging they could be carrying some fatigue given the team’s recent tight schedule.
“When you look at the calendar recently, we have been playing three games a week. We had a game in Onduparaka on Wednesday, came back Thursday, played today and then we have to travel again for our next game on Tuesday,” Kisala told media after the game.
With such a schedule, fatigue could have set in amongst some players on the team. But for a team as ambitious as we are, you ought to win against all odds, and I recommend the boys for the victory.” He continued.
Wakiso now climb to fifth on the log, with 10 points from seven games so far, while Mbarara city remain seventh on the 16-team log.
The Purple sharks return to league action on Wednesday when they visit SC Villa at Namboole, while Mbarara play host to Maroons FC in the Luzira ground derby of sorts.
