Uganda Cranes and prominent football cheerleader Jackson Ssewanyana alias Uncle Money, has been sent to Luzira prison on remand on charges of manslaughter.

He is accused of clobbering to death Tumusiime, a phone dealer at Mutaasa-Kafeero plaza in Kampala, on August 16, 2019.

Ssewanyana was arrested and locked up at Old Kampala Police Station on September 9th, to ascertain his role in the death of Tumusiime.

Uncle money was produced in front of the Buganda road magistrate’s court on Monday, and charged with manslaughter.

Uncle money together with one Benson Senyonga however, denied the charges read against them.

State prosecutor Timothy Amerit informed the court that investigations into the case had been completed, before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Miriam Ayo Akello adjourned hearing of the case to October 1, 2019.

The charges

Uncle Money, who is also the vice-chairperson for Kasubi zone 4 in Lubaga division, is alleged to have incited a mob to lynch a suspected mobile phone thief, one Siraje Hakim Tumusiime.

According to the state prosecutor, at about 8:30 pm on August 16, 2019, Tumusiime, who was a phone dealer at Mutaasa Kafeero plaza in Kampala city received a phone call that made him leave his house in Lubya zone.

It is also alleged that later, Uncle Money was seen holding Tumusiime by the hand and leading him behind Royal Hotel where he allegedly handed him over to stick-wielding youths led by the defence secretary Ssenyonga.

The youths are said to have beaten and kicked Tumusiime before uncle money transferred him to an unknown destination.

Prosecution also alleges that after 3 days of searching, Tumusiime’s body was found at Mulago city mortuary with numerous wounds prompting the family to report a murder case at Old Kampala Police station.

Uncle money and Ssenyonga were not allowed to present their bail application because the lawyer they had hired did not turn up in court.

If convicted of the case, Uncle Money faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
