Egypt: Former Cranes coach seated on a time bomb

There was only one eye-catching detail when Pyramids unveiled Sebastien Desabre as their head coach days after he had resigned as the head coach of the Uganda Cranes in July.

Desabre was given an open contract without a stipulated duration, which gives him the leeway to walk out anytime he felt like.

But the club was also at liberty to fire him in case they thought he had failed to deliver and by the looks of things, they are about to pull the trigger.

Football-256 has learnt that failure to advance to the preliminary round of the 2019/2020 Total CAF Confederation Cup will lead to Desabre’s dismissal.

Pyramids drew their 2019/2020 Total CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first leg qualifier against CR Belouizdad 1-1, a result that puts Desabre in an unfamiliar situation.

Ahead of the return, they have to double their effort to win the tie as the Algerians boast of that precious away goal.

In Pyramids’ first ever cup final, Desabre lost to Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s Zamalek SC 3-0, a result that didn’t go well with his bosses.

Desabre has been in charge of seven games since taking over at Pyramids, winning five, losing one and drawing as many.

Before the team’s return leg on the continent, they will have to negotiate their opening game of the Egypt Premier League against ENPPI
