The U-17 national Women team head coach Ayub Khalifah is worried about the progress of his team despite picking up a win over FUFA women elite league select team on Sunday morning at the FUFA technical center Njeru.

The Crested Cranes had a better outing against the Elite team than they did against Kampala select team in their first friendly on Wednesday. But Khalifah admits that he expected better from his team given the time invested in training.

“We have managed to win against a league select team, which is a good result for us but we still have work to do before the COSAFA tournament,” Khalifah said after the game.

“Am worried about our defending. We have tirelessly worked on the set up, though there is some apparent improvement, we still need to improve on our discipline and balance the defensive zones,”

“Upfront, we still have a lot of work to do because we create quite few chances and struggle to put away the chances we have created.” He added.

The team is in preparations for the upcoming U-17 women COSAFA tournament that is due 20th – 29th, September in Mauritius.

U-17 Skipper on the day Juliet Nalukenge opened the national team account through a penalty in the 7th minute to give the team an early lead.

She Cranes defender Stella Musibika, was unlucky to turn the ball into her own net before the half time break.

Juliet Nalukenge put the cranes back into the lead in the 66th minute, before Stella Musibika undid her earlier error scoring at the other end to make it 3-1, and salvage victory for Khalifah’s side.

Khalifah is expected to name his final 20-man squad before the team travel to Mauritius on Wednesday.

They will play their first group game in the tournament against Zambia on Friday 20th, before they face off against hosts Mauritius and the Seychelles on 22nd and 4th respectively.
