StarTimes Uganda Premier League reigning champions KCCA FC have safely touched base at the Quatro de Fevereiro International airport, Luanda, Angola ahead of their CAF Champions league qualifer first leg tie against Petro de Luanda.
A contigent of 34 players, coaches, and officials headed by Rogers Byamukama from FUFA left Entebbe international airport at on Thursday September 11th at 2:45 am aboard Ethiopian Airlines.
The team had a stop over at Bole Airport in Addis Ababa from where they continued their flight to Angola.
New signing Simon Serunkuma made the trip, after missing out on their preliminary qualifier against Namibian side African stars.
However, the other new recruits which include Erisa Sekisambu, John Revita, Kezironi Kizito and Nigerian John Egbuonu Odumegwu, will have to wait until the team makes the group stages for them to feature in the competition.
The club’s holding midfielder Nicolas Kasozi has missed out on the trip as he is still out with injury. But Allan Okello and Muzamir Mutyaba made the squad together with youngster Steven Serrwadda who was included in place of Kasozi.
The two sides will face off on Saturday September 14th 2019 at Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda before facing again in the second leg that will be played between September 27th and 29th at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo.
To reach this round, KCCA eliminated Namibia’s African Stars with a 4-3 aggregate while Petro de Launda eliminated Lesotho’s Matlama FC 4-0 on aggregate.
KCCA’s last time to face Angolan side in this competition came in 2017, as they knocked out CD Primeiro de Agosto, KCCA advanced to the next round by virtue of more away goals scored after the two sides played to a 2-2 draw in Angola.
The contingent was led by FUFA executive committee member Rogers Byamukama and they left the country on Thursday morning aboard Ethiopian Airlines.
