Preview: Crunch time as BUL host Busoga United in Jinja derby

Eastern rivals BUL FC and Busoga United face off in the first Jinja derby of the season, a mouth-watering clash at the FUFA Technical center, Njeru.

The season is still young, and bragging rights in this one will go a long way in who makes more noise in Jinja town for the moment though.

The hosts are one of the three sides with a 100% record in the league this season, and will seek to keep that record at least for the fore see-able future.

BUL are quick starters and last season they lost just once in their opening seven games. This season, the have already won against Police FC and Express in their opening two games.

On the other hand, Busoga United have had an indifferent start, losing their opening two games before picking up what should be a morale boosting 3-1 win over Bright Stars on Saturday.

A win over their cross-town rivals today, will do much in lifting spirits in and around the club.

Busoga head coach Abbey Kikomeko knows the odds at stake, but he says that the more prepared team on the day will have a bigger chance of taking maximum points.

“A derby is a derby, it can go either way, all the teams are well prepared but the more prepared side have the better advantage,” Kikomeko said ahead of the match.

“My team is in good shape, motivated by our previous win against Bright Stars, and we are looking ahead to the game,” He added.

Kikomeko anticipates a tough game, but he maintains that his charges are equally motivated to pick up maximum points and the bragging rights per say.

“We are playing a team which is yet to lose in league this season, but we are ready to win and take three points, I expect a tough, tense and entertaining encounter,” Kikomeko further said.

BUL FC head coach Peter Onen also share similar sentiments like his rival, but maintained that they will use the fixture to prove to the rest that they are competitors for the league not just participants.

“We are ready for the game. Derbies call for an extra effort but we are prepared and this is a chance for us to show that we are competitors this season not participants.”

Kikomeko has a clean slate regards injury, and he will be spoilt for choice while Onen confirmed that midfielder Richard Wandyaka will have to pass a late fitness test.

The spot light will be on former Busoga United midfielder Godfrey Akol who crossed over to BUL this season.

The two sides have met six times, five of them ending in draws while BUL has the only win in this derby which came last season.
