U-17 women national team defeat Kampala Select in Practice Match

The U-17 Women national team won their first practice match against a Kampala Select team on Wednesday morning at FUFA technical center, Njeru.

Shakira Nyinagahirwa scored the first goal of the game after 20 minutes of play thanks for Fauzia Najjemba defence splitting pass, with Shakira beating the keeper to slot into an empty net.

The first half of the game ended 1-0 in favor of the national team who enjoyed the lions share of possession in the opening 45 minutes. 

Juliet Nalukenge doubled the lead in the 55th minute, after Kampala Select team goal keeper Esther Akujo failed to collect the ball comfortably to gift Nalukenge an easy rebound.

Kampala Select stepped up a notch and gain more dominance of the ball. They kept knocking at the national team’s goal and created a couple goal scoring opportunities but the Crested Cranes managed to hold on. 

Second half substitute Ronah Nantege who replaced Margaret Nalukenge who was subbed off with injury scored Kampala select’s only goal of the match in the 70th minute, capitalizing on a lose ball in the penalty are.

Head Coach Ayub Khalifah was impressed with the girls performance after a 2-1 win though he maintains that they still have a few aspects to improve as a team.

“Am very impressed with the performance my girls showed against the select team. They tried to possess the ball and playing a select team and you win it is not something easy.” He told www.football-256.com after the game.

“The level of fitness is at 70 percent when you look at the way they are delivering, they can play seventy minutes without getting tired.”

He went on to say that though the team has won but he has to work on the sharpness of his strikers.

“We have won and managed to score two goals, that’s good but we have to improve on the sharpness of the strikers so that they can score more goals.”
