Busoga United dominant in first Jinja derby victory

Busoga United are the ‘Kings of Jinja’ after a dominant and comprehensive victory over cross town rivals, BUL Bidco at the FUFA technical center, Njeru.

Busoga united were yet to pick up victory in the Jinja derby, as five of the last six derbies had ended in stalemates while BUL were victorious in the last derby played last season.

With Busoga’s record in the fixture, it was imperative that they won against their rivals to recoup some pride especially for their fans.

Three goals in the space of 25 minutes in the second half made sure Busoga left Njeru the jubilant side.

BUL were dominant in possession but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal.

Busoga could have gone ahead against the run of play after Joel Madondo beat defender Walter Ochola but skipper Dennis Okot’s last ditch tackle denied the striker.

The visitors were again at it, this time goal keeper Ali Kimera superbly denying James Otim as he attempted to round him. Kimera again denied Otim as the latter was left with only the keeper to beat.

Busoga found the break through in the 72nd minute from the spot, after substitute Ivan Wani was brought down by Ochola inside the area. Second half substitute Boban Zirintusa stepped up to coolly convert from the resulting penalty.

Man-of-the-match: Isaac Isinde

With eight minutes left to play, Madondo scored Busoga’s second goal of the game and it was one he will savor for years to come.

A poor clearance from the BUL defenders fell onto Madondo who superbly took it onto his chest before unleashing a thunder strike into the roof of the net. Busoga was not yet done though, teenage striker Lawrence Tezikya came on late to scorer a third deep into stoppage times.

The goal ensured Peter Onen’s men suffered their first loss of the season, and ended their 100% start to the season. Busoga meanwhile picked up their second win in a row, and climb to third on the log, a point behind leaders Wakiso Giants.
