Vipers SC midfielder Ashraf ‘Fadiga’ Mugume, has revealed that he is ready to fight for his spot in the team this season, after he returned to the club.
The central midfielder was promoted to the senior team in the 2017/2018 season, but failed to break through into the first team before Vipers decided that a loan spell away will be important in his development.
At the start of the 2018/2019 season, he joined Police FC, a move that proved to be of worth to the youngster as he had more playing time under the mentorship of Abdallah Mubiru.
Mugume believes that the time he spent at Police has helped him improve, due to regular playing time he got at the club, and he is now ready to fight for his position.
“I feel am now a better player. The adventure at Police was an educational experience for me in terms of getting used to league football as well as discovering and exercising my potential as a young player,” Mugume was quoted by the club’s official website.
“I have learnt a lot during my loan spell and I will keep working hard to fully maximize my potential. I believe it’s my time to shine,” he added.
Fadiga is a product of St Mary’s School – Kitende which acts as the club’s academy, but due lack of playing time, he made only two appearances in the first half of the season before switching to Police on loan.
At Police, he scored three goals and provided five assists which helped Juma Balinya top the scorers’ charts in the 2018/19 campaign.
He will face competition from midfielders like Rahmat Ssenfuka, Brian Nkuubi, Ibrahim Tembo, Siraje Ssentamu, Abdul Karim Watambala and Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye for starting spot at the club.
