Former Cranes coach Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic guided Egyptian outfit Zamalek SC to their 27th, Egypt Cup after a 3-0 win over Pyramids.
Pyramids are being coached by another Sebastien Desabre, Micho’s predecessors as Cranes coach, the former resigned after Uganda’s exist at the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations.
Youssef Obama scored the first for Zamalek in the 51st minute before Achraf Bencharki doubled the lead in the 61st and later completed his brace in the 83rd.
“It is honour and privilege to coach a walking legend of Zamalek and Egyptian football,” Micho posted on his twitter handle before praising the cub captain Mahmoud Shikabala.
“Our captain Shikabala serious guy from Aswan otherwise extended hand of coaching on the field of play, keeping club and supporters at heart giving his best for the team to win Egyptian cup.”
Micho who once described coaching Zamalek as the hardest coaching job in African football also had a message for those who doubted him.
“Working in African football since 2001 this is my 16th major trophy in 5 different countries. It has special value and specific weight as it comes after some clouds of doubts elsewhere.”
“Zamalek is existing 108 years and since 1922 (97years) this is 1st cup won without a goal conceded.”
En route to the finals, Zamalek defeated MS Minyat Samanoud (1-0) at the round of 32, El Entag El Harby (2-0 AET) at the round of 16, Misr Lel Makkasa (1-0) at the last eight stage and Al Ittihad (1-0 AET) at the semi-final stage.
