Onyango out as Mucureezi, Anukani make Cranes cut

Uganda Cranes captain Dennis Onyango has pulled out of Uganda Cranes’ friendly against Kenya.

Uganda will play Kenya Harambe Stars in an international friendly match on Sunday, 8th September 2019, at the Moi International stadium in Kasarani, Nairobi.

Uganda Cranes interim head coach Abdallah Mubiru, initially summoned a 25-man squad for the friendly, but a legion of foreign based players have pulled out of the game.

Goalkeepers Onyango and Robert Odongkara, defender Joseph Ochaya, forwards Farouk Miya, Abdu Lumala, have all pulled out of the squad. While Nicolas Kasozi is the only local based player to pull out.

Mubiru has decided to replace some of the players with Mbarara City midfielder Paul Mucureezi and Proline FC forward Bright Anukani as the pair are expected to play a role as the Cranes take on Burundi in the CHAN qualifiers later this month.

Experienced attacker Emmanuel Okwi will captain the team with Timothy Awany his deputy. Khalid Aucho, Tadeo Lwanga and Kizito Luwagga are the only foreign based players on the team and are expected to link up with the squad whilst in Kenya.

A contingent of 13 players and 18 officials are expected to depart from Entebbe airport for Kenya aboard the Uganda Airlines bombardier on Friday at 6 A.M.

Others are;Paul Willa, Mustafa Kizza, John Revita, Allan Kayiwa, Allan Okello, Fahad Bayo, Muzamir Mutyaba, Mustapha Mujjuzi and Halid Lwaliwa.
