KCCA FC lost the first leg of the 2019/2020 Total CAF Champions League preliminary round 3-2 away to African Stars in Windhoek, Namibia.
A result the manager Mike Mutebi says was due to carelessness in his team’s defending and failure to put away their chances on the other side of the pitch.
“We conceded silly goals because of carelessness not that the opposition outplayed us though they played well,” Mutebi said after the game played on Saturday, August 10th, 2019.
“In the first half alone we would have had three goals but when we missed those, of course, they gained confidence and they were at home and they began playing.”
African Stars’ Ivan Kamberimpa scored the opening of the game into his net before Ameseb levelled matter for the home side just before half time.
Ibroihim Youssouf gave the hosts the lead with 20 minutes to go before Patrick Kaddu drew the game level once again, and former sealed it all for the Namibian side, a result Mutebi believes his side can build on going into the return leg.
“It was a good game because they were attacking as we were also attacking but still kudos to them because they gave us a big challenge but I believe that in Kampala we shall change and we won’t be careless as we were,” Mutebi added.
“They had a lot of belief and they’ll come to play just as they did, a team that concedes first and comes up and reacts like the way they did deserves credit, therefore, it’s us to correct our mistakes and put away those chances we get in the return leg,” he noted.
Despite losing 3-2 away from home, the Uganda Premier League reigning champions return home with two important away goals on which they will build for positivity in a fortnight.
