If you were wondering where Ivan Bogere got the motivation to score three goals on his continental debut as first-timers Proline defeated Master Security 3-0 in the 2019/2020 Total CAF Confederation Cup, look no further.
Bogere, whose only experience in topflight football is in the 2019 Stanbic Uganda Cup played like an obsessed man on Saturday at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo.
His mother Oliver Nakyeyune was in the stands but also the fact that his late father Livingstone Sserunkuma was watching from the heavens.
Many were shocked when upon receiving the match ball for the hattrick, Bogere ran straight to stands to hand it over to his mother in the general stand before he was stopped.
“My performance today was all about my mother,” Bogere who was the top scorer of the FUFA Big League with 14 goals as Proline gained promotion to the top tier league said after the game.
“My father died before he could have a chance to see me play since he was sick and could not attend my games, he could only read about me in papers.”
“For this game, I made sure my mother attends which gave me satisfaction and motivation to go and give my all. I dedicate this win to her,” added Bogere.
It always seemed like Proline would struggle at this stage, but the players were mentally prepared for the challenge according to Bogere.
“The coach (Shafiq Bisaso) played the biggest role behind this victory, our coach had to intensify the training knowing that we are going for a bigger stage.”
“I believe we already had the win in hand considering what coach took us through in preparations. He was just after that, and we are thankful we got the success,” said the striker who Proline spotted while playing Masaza football for Buwekula
Proline will play Master Security in the return leg on August 24th, with the winner advancing to the first round of the qualifying round.
