CHAN 2020: Somalian player forcefully seeks asylum in Uganda

It’s never a perfect ending without stories of Somali players vanishing every after a football game or tournament, especially around the East African region.

One player with the help of his colleagues who stay in Uganda was helped to beat security and vacate the stadium without being caught after the African Nations Championship second leg preliminary round qualifier against Uganda.

Three others were found hiding in the men’s washrooms waiting for the situation to calm down before they could disappear but they weren’t lucky enough.

Uganda defeated Somalia 4-1 through a Patrick Kaddu hat-trick and another by Allan Kyambadde at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019.

Uganda played against Somalia on neutral ground in Djibouti a week ago in the first leg of this tie due to the political instability back home, the former were 3-1 victors, advancing to the next round 7-2 on aggregate.
