Edward Golola kicked off his third stint at Vipers SC with victory after a 1-0 win over Proline FC in the opening game of the 2019 Pilsner Super 8 Tournament.
Denis Mwemezi scored the only goal to secure a highly needed win for Vipers at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Wednesday evening.
Vipers came closer in the 19th minute but Abraham Ndugwa’s one on one effort was saved by Proline’s custodian Hassan Matovu.
However, in the 24th minute, the Venoms broke the deadlock with a header from Mwemezi that beat Matovu on their near post off the Aziz Kayondo’s cross.
Proline almost equalised in the 42nd minute but Ivan Bogere fired wide with Fabian Mutombora in the Vipers SC goal to beat.
Vipers came closer again in the 58th minute, this time around it was Abdul Karim Watambala with a heavy shot from outside the area, but Matovu was in the right position to save it.
Mwemezi had a chance to double Vipers’ lead but he failed to control the ball when one on one with Matovu in the 71st minute of the game.
Proline lacked efficiency in the final third of the pitch which led to create little chances in the game.
With the win, Vipers advance to the last four as they aim at winning their first silverware of the season.
