If all goes according to plan, telecommunication company MTN Uganda might join StarTimes as the other sponsors of the Uganda Premier League.

Football-256 sources have learnt that negotiations between, MTN, StarTimes and NBS TV the parent company of Sanyuka TV where the league is broadcast are in advanced stages.

It’s not yet clear what exactly NBS Television and StarTimes are selling to the telecommunication company, but it’s likely to be the naming rights of the league.

Meaning the league’s name will change from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League to probably MTN Uganda Premier League.

Our sources later revealed that the league’s naming rights have been up for sale and the advertising team at StarTimes has been looking for a potential buyer since last season.

Before the beginning of the 2018/2019 season, StarTimes together with FUFA unveiled an ‘exclusive’ sponsorship package worth US$7.24M (UGX26,680,848,000 for ten years.

If the deal materialises, MTN will be back in Uganda football since 2013 when their 10-year relationship as the sponsors of the national team ended.

Currently, in the league, MTN has partnerships with 13-time league champions KCCA FC and Onduparaka Football Club.
