Golola back at Vipers in third stint as head coach

The rumours and speculations whether Vipers will appoint a foreign coach to replace Michael Nam Ouma or with a local one can now stop.

It’s a local coach and not Wasswa Bossa or Fred Kajoba like the reports that were making rounds, but it’s an old gun in Edward Golola that was confirmed by the club on Saturday afternoon.

This will be Golola’s third stint at the three time league champions as the head, 2009-2011 and 2014-2015 are the others, in that period Vipers won the league title in 2010 and repeated the feat in 2015.

“I am immensely proud to be returning as head coach,” Golola was quoted by the clubs official website.

“Everyone knows my love for this club and the history we have shared, however, my sole focus is on the job in hand and preparing for the season ahead,” he added.

With the duration of the contract not clear, Golola will be working with trusted right hand man Richard Wasswa as his assistant, the latter also returns for a third time.

The technical team that was dissolved earlier has been reappointed with Ram Nyakana Mpuga (fitness coach), Edward Ssali (second assistant coach), Mathius Kassagga (physiotherapist) and Moses Oloya as goalkeeping coach.
