CECAFA 2019: As senior players, we will guide the juniors – Kiiza

Elders guide the juniors, that has been the norm, since days in memorial, even in sports, football in particular.

Three years ago, KCCA FC promoted Mustafa Kizza, Allan Okello, Julius Poloto, Peter Magambo and Herbert Achai from the junior team to the first team. They were warmly welcomed by their seniors which helped them settle in very fast.

Fast truck to 2019 Mike Mutebi again promoted six juniors to the senior team, among them are defenders Samuel Kato, Ramadan Musa and striker Sadat Anaku.

The trio is at the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup with KCCA FC and they will need support from the senior players if they are to feel at home.

Fast rising left footed enterprising midfielder cum left back Kizza has already sheltered the responsibility.

“We are like brothers, therefore, we’ll guide them (the junior players) because we also began just like them,” the KCCA assistant captain started.

“The only difference between us and them is that we’ve been playing for the senior team as they were playing for the junior team,”

“It being their starting mark, they will feel a little bit of pressure but with guidance we can help them so that they can play well because they are really good players.”

Although the trio will be having the maiden start of its senior career, even the long serving senior players will also be playing at their maiden CECAFA tournament. Only Muzamiru Mutyaba and Mike Mutyaba have experience at this level.

This being a regional tournament, Mutebi’s fledglings have played on the continent previously at both club and national levels.

Kizza insists the team is well prepared for their first at the regional tournament against Bandari FC on Sunday.

“We are well prepared for Bandari’s game because we’ve been together for over two weeks in preparation for this tournament.”

“Since everyone is focused, we need to win tomorrow’s game so that we can start on top though the opponent won’t be taken lightly.

“As a player I have no any pressure because I’ve faced a lot of teams in such tournaments, me am ready for any challenge hoping to do my best,” Kizza noted.

Kato, Musa and Anaku will stand in for the likes of Timothy Awany, Allan Kyambadde and Patrick Kaddu who are still with the fallen Uganda Cranes team in Egypt.
