Makerere University Women Football Club claimed the 2019 FUFA Women’s Cup after their 2-0 win against Lady Doves at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Saturday evening.
Jemima Twesigye and Fatuma Nandawula scored in both halves for Makerere University as they humbled the Masindi based side to win their first ever cup.
Makerere University put up a performance that sent shockwaves to the entire women football fraternity as the underdogs beat all odds to win the championship.
Jemima Twesigye scored from the spot to put Makerere University into the driving seat midway the first half after youngster Catherine Nagadya was put down in the forbidden area by Lady Doves’ defender Nancy Akello.
Lady Doves’ Lillian Veronica almost leveled matters but she failed to make it count inside the box which would have been a goal.
The first half ended 1-0 with Makerere University dominating play as Lady Doves struggled to find their feet in the game.
Things came from bad to worse for Lady Doves when Makerere University substitute Fatuma Nandawula doubled their lead ten minutes to full time.
The Oliver Mbekeka coached side created just two chances throughout the game as they lost their second final in a space of seven days.
Lady Doves were also beaten 2-0 by UCU Lady Cardinals in the 2018/2019 FUFA Women Elite League final on Sunday June 2nd, 2019.
Makerere University talisman Amina Nababi won the Most Valuable Player award with Uganda Marty’s defender Shadia Nankya winning the golden boot, she scored seven goals.
She corporate goalkeeper Vanessa Karungi Edith won the best goalkeeper award while Tooro Queens won the fair play award.
