FUFA Big League

Mayanja praises Mugabi while Kirya faults Ogik

Wakiso Giants striker Norman Ogik and custodian Yasin Mugabi in one way or the other had a big part to play in the StarTimes FUFA Big League tie played on Thursday in Jinja between the side and Kyetume FC.

That’s according to coaches Ibrahim Kirya of Wakiso Giants and Jackson Mayanja of Kyetume FC.

With four minutes left on the clock and the Kyetume defence running out of legs to defend, Wakiso Giants’ skipper Feni Ali outpaced them down the right.

He picked up his man who was Ogik, the striker connected with his left, with the Kyetume goalkeeper Ismael Ziwa beaten, for some reason Ogik missed the target by half an inch.

“It was the best chance of the day but unfortunately we couldn’t make it count,” Kirya told

“But we can take the point with pride, especially if it’s off that team we are competing with, we still lead them with six points and we can build on that,” he added.

Eleven minutes into the first half, Mugabi was called into action, diving the right side to save Paul Opedun’s ground shot.

With six minutes to the break, Mugabi again with one arm punched Deo Isejja’s effort out got a corner.

“Mugabi was the difference today,” Mayanja said before adding. “Our game plan was to shot at their goal from far and every time we tried it, he was there to save his team.”

Those were the only goal scoring opportunities Kyetume had, they didn’t show up in the second half but Wakiso couldn’t capitalise either apart from the Ogik moment.
