Maroons tame Mwebaze on second attempt

Maroons picked up their second win this season after they came from behind to beat Nyamityobora 2-1 in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League tie played at the Prisions ground in Luzira.

Maroons midfeilder Rashid Agau notched a brace to cancel out Dada Juma’s header for Nyamityobora which proved to be a consolation.

For the second straight time Asaph Mwebaze now with Nyamityobora lost on his return to his former side Maroons. it was his third straight loss.

Maroons started well on a water logged pitch after a down pour with creative midfeilder Pius Obuya shooting at close range on 15 minutes but his shot was saved by Nyamityobora’s Saddam Ogwang.

Four minutes later, the hosts had a penalty shout, Mpengere Ibrahim the victim of handling the ball in the fobidden area but centre referee Robert Donney turned it down.

The visitors then seemed to pause questions one of which was not answered, striker Dada Juma rose highest to head home Musige Charles’ cross to give Asaph Mwebaze’s side the lead in the 27th minute.

The lead would last eight minutes as Pius Obuya broke through and passed to a fast Agau on the left who made no mistake leaving the Nyamityobora defence for dead to finish calmly sending the home crowd into wild celebrations.

With the game poised at 1-1, the second half looked to offer more talking points. Maroons returned with more focus and it later showed when Agau doubled the lead in the 55th minute after Mahad Yiga reluctantly failed to make a clearance in the box.

Nyamityobora tried to level matters but Maroons kept intact till the end. The visitors head coach Asaph Mwebaze says they felt comfortable after the lead and switched off.

“We didn’t play as expected, we were abit comfortable after scoring going forward we need to bring quality players in order to beat the drop” Asaph said.

For George Best Nsimbe, Belief and team work brought it home.

“The team played as a unit, they also had belief and for me that counted alot in today’s result,” Nsimbe said.

The win takes Maroons to 12th spot on 10 points while Nyamityobora sit 15th on four points..
