Zambia: Kigonya hungry for better displays at Forest Rangers

Goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya was unbeatable as his side Forest Rangers picked up a 1-0 victory over Kabwe Warriors

Following his superb display for Forest Rangers in their 2-0 victory over Kabwe Warriors in the Zambian Premier League at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, on Saturday, that saw him scoop the man of the match award, custodian Mathias Kigonya has vowed to continue working hard for better displays in the season going forward.

Kigonya who is also a product of the annual Copa Coca-Cola school’s championship with Bishop Nankyama was a force to reckon in the goal posts with a number of thrilling saves in both halves that saw him keep his third season clean sheet from five games so far.

“I feel so grateful for this man of the match award, but more importantly, for the win as it motivates me to work extra hard to keep getting better and I promise to keep working hard for more better performances.” Kigonya told football-256

The former Sofapaka custodian also revealed the trick behind his fabulous ball distribution.

“Ball distribution is one of my major strengths since childhood so wherever I go I ensure before or after training I conduct special training on only ball distribution which has made me unique.” Kigonya said.

Kigonya who was also part of the Uganda Cranes at the 2016 CHAN tournament joined Forest Rangers last season from Kenyan side Kakamega Home Boys a few weeks after joining from Sofapaka and has since been a main stay in the Ndola based side goal posts.

Forest Rangers currently sit in 5th place with 10 points from five games on the 18-team table.
