Uganda play Botswana in the first semi-finals of the 2019 COSAFA U-17 women tournament on Friday, at the St Francois stadium, Mauritius.
The U-17 side topped group A with seven points in three games, and scored 31 goals, conceding once in their 1-1 draw against Zambia in their opening group A game.
They obliterated Mauritius 11-0 before thumping Comoros 20-0 in their final two games.
But qualifying for the semi-finals at their first appearance in the tournament is not a surprise, at least to gaffer Ayub Khalifah as he promised outright victory in the tournament.
“Am not surprised that we are playing the semi-finals, our target coming to this tournament was to win the trophy,” Khalifah said ahead of the game.
“We have scored many goals in our last two games and we are looking for more in the semi-finals.”
“We will not underrate Bostswana but this time we shall need more balance both in the striking line and in the backline if we are to stand any realistic chance of advancing to the next stage.” He added.
Uganda U-17 captain Juliet Nalukenge who is the current top scorer with fourteen goals will lead the line as the side will be looking to play in the first ever tournament final.
