Rwanda: AS Kigali name Niyonzima captain

Upon returning back home, Rwanda outfit AS Kigali named Haruna Niyonzima as their new captain ahead of the 2019/2020 Rwanda Premier League season and CAF Confederations cup preliminary round games.

The 29 year old former Amavubi Stars skipper who joined in after being released by Tanzanian giants Simba SC at the end of last season will have his first assignment in the 2019/2020 CAF Confederations cup against KMC FC of Tanzania.

Niyonzima was part of the players that commenced training on Tuesday in Kigali with lots of confidence and belief vested in him by head coach Jean De Dieu Mateso.

He has previously featured for Etincelles FC, Rayon Sports, APR FC and Young Africans with over 80 caps and six goals to his name in national colours.

AS Kigali defeated SC Kiyovu 2-1 earlier this month at Kigali Stadium Nyamirambo thanks to Jean Claude Niyomugabo and Eric “Zidane” Nsabimana strikes to lift the 2019 Rwanda Peace Cup.

They had to go past APR and Rayon Sports in the round of 16 and semi finals respectively.

The winner between AS Kigali and KMC FC in the Confederation Cup will face-off with the winner between Proline FC and Security Masters from Malawi.
