Striker Erisa Ssekisambu made a second-half appearance for Gor Mahia as the Kenyan Premier League leaders overcame Tusker FC 2-0 on Saturday at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Gor Mahia went into the game in need of a win that would stretch their lead at the top to seven points.
This follows their midweek walkover they got after Mt. Kenya United failed to show up for the match against the Kenyan champions.
Sixteen minutes into the game, Gor Mahia went ahead through Rwandan striker Jacques Tuyisenge who fired home after some good work from Kenneth Muguna on the right flank.
Former Ulinzi Stars forward Sammy Onyango sealed the win in the 34th minute with a header after his initial attempt was saved.
The Brewers showed improvement after the break but they failed to break down Gor Mahia with captain Timothy Otieno and Sydney Ochieng throwing away easy goal-scoring chances.
Ssekisambu came off the bench in the closing stages of the game for injured Kenneth Muguna while Tusker deployed Ugandan defender Rodgers Aloro in the right back position.
The win stretches Gor Mahia’s lead at the top to 55 points, seven more than second placed Sofapaka. Tusker are sixth with 38 points.
